Mr. John Reed Strickland, 66, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.
Born January 29, 1955, Mr. Strickland was a lifelong resident of Troup County, was a member of Big Springs United Methodist Church, and was employed by the Meriwether County Board of Education. He loved his dog Rufus, trout fishing, riding his motorcycle and also enjoyed building bird houses and remodeling his home. He loved to work and enjoyed his job, but is most remembered as a man who loved people and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
Survivors include his daughter, Sara Abell; grandchildren, Rex Abell and Lacey Abell, all of Barnstead, NH; his mother, Bernice Strickland; sister Ellen Parmer and her husband Keith; brother, Thomas Pace Strickland III and his wife Virginia, all of LaGrange; nieces and nephews, Travis Strickland and his wife Natalie, Jason Strickland, Chase Parmer and his wife Sara, and Beth Parmer. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacie Strickland; father, Thomas Pace Strickland, Jr.; and sister, Maidee Strickland.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with Dr. Maurice Brown officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 Friday afternoon.
The family requests that those attending wear masks and practice social distancing.
