Aaron Glen Alderman, 40, of Mesa, Ariz., and Scottsville, Ky., passed away July 19, 2021, in Mesa.

He was born Feb. 20, 1981, in St. Joseph, the son of Ed and Cindy Alderman of Lawrence.

Aaron was a man of strong Christian faith, his family and friends take comfort in the knowledge that he now is with Jesus. He enjoyed time with family and friends, travel, the outdoors, his church and Bible study. His passion was aviation, he soloed at 16, flew single and multi-engine airplanes and helicopters, and was happiest when flying.

Aaron was a graduate of Lawrence High School (2000), Western Michigan University's School of Aviation and the ROTC Program, U.S. Army Helicopter Flight School and Northwestern Michigan College's Certified Flight Instructor training. He served as helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army with combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, attaining the rank of Captain. After his Honorable separation from the service, he worked as a security guard, certified flight instructor and semi-truck driver.

On Nov. 15, 2013, Aaron and Tonya O'Donnell were united in marriage. In addition to his wife; and parents; he is survived by his son, Ezra; stepchildren; Darius, Ramon and Lillian; grandmother; Katherine Alderman; sister, Shannon Grice; brother, Ryan Alderman; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aaron was preceded in passing by his daughter, Madelynne Rose Alderman; grandparents: Kenneth Alderman, Cecil and Edith Eltzroth; his uncle, Major Michael Lopriore; and aunt, Nora Alderman.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and he will be inurned at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 20.

A celebration of life open house will be from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, at the American Legion Post in Lawrence.

Gifts in his memory may be made to the Ezra Alderman Account at the Mercantile Bank in Paw Paw, Mich., or via Ed Alderman or to the Open Arms Church, 4640 N. Granite Reef Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
