Margie L. Eakins, 97, longtime resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born March 23, 1924 in Fruitland, Missouri to Lloyd and Nola Jane Wills Casteel.
She attended Pocahontas High School and then Jackson High School. She played on the ladies basketball team in Pocahontas and was a cheerleader.
She and Cecil Earl Eakins were married March 31, 1943 at Jackson, Missouri.
Margie loved to dance and did so regularly at American Legion in Jackson, St. Mary and Shakertown. She made many friends at these dances and was regular accompanied to them by her friend, Martha.
She also had a love for traveling. She went on many trips to New York, Hershey, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Hawaii.
Margie was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include three daughters, Saundra Draper, Delores (Steve) Enderle, LaDonna (Lee) Ruebel all of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Bob Casteel of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Tammy (Mark) Ahlvin, Brandy (Joe) Davis, Scott (Sarah) Enderle, Regina (Jacob) Pattengill, Jeffrey (Naruyo) Ruebel and Lance (Emily) Ruebel; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Visitation will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Debra Tracy officiating.
Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
