He was called Adam the Pioneer! He was the son
of William the Conestoga Fur Trader.
He accompanied his father to Lancaster Co, Pa. in 1720.

Adam received half of 200 acre "three partners" tract
in Cecil County, Maryland on 13 Dec. 1725
and sold it on1 Sept. 1736 to Samuel Caldwell.

He was a signer of the Watauga Petition to North Carolina.
Adam was said to be the 1st white man to cross
the Catawba River and fording the place known as
Sherrill's Ford.
He died there in 1772; descendants erected a
monument to his memory in Aug 2, 1929 - 2 mi. SW
of Sherrills Ford, NC which carries the inscription
that Adam & 8 sons crossed the Catawba there in 1747.

His daughter-in-law Agnes White Sherrill
died Nov 29 1795. This marker is beside her
husbands marker. He was Captain William Sherrill.
Her date of death is on this marker AS D 11 29 1795.
The 1795 wraps around the side of the stone.
The marker beside hers is marked W S D D 31 1786.
His date of death was Dec 31 1786.
No legible marker has been found for Adam.

are buried here in one of the
oldest family burial grounds
in Catawba County.

The cemetery was restored
and is maintained by the
Catawba County
Historical Association.
