Reverend Roy Lee Thompson, age 89, beloved husband of Mary Katherine Kea Thompson of Adrian, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at their home.

Born in Johnson County, he was one of eight children born to the late Harvey Millard and Mattie Mae Rowland Thompson.

Reverend Thompson grew up in Johnson County and after graduating high school he attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville from where he graduated with his Bachelors Degree. During his years of pastoring, he served several Nazarene churches in Americas, and in the Nashville area, to include Pond Creek, Morris Hill, Whites Creek, Joelton, Glencliff, and Griffins Chapel. His final assignment before retiring, was back to his childhood church as a staff minister, Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene in Wrightsville. During his time in the Nashville area, he also drove a school bus for the Metro Nashville Public School System.

After retiring he settled in the family homestead and immersed himself in renovating the family home to accommodate the entire family at one time. This undertaking was a labor of love and joy as he added on bedrooms, bathrooms, entrances and exits, as well as additional kitchen areas, all to bring his family together on special occasions and holidays. Needless to say, his interests were his wife and his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Roy Lee Thompson Jr.; and brothers, Herman and James Thompson; and sister, Blanche T. Smith.

Reverend Thompson leaves behind his wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Katherine Thompson of Adrian; their children, Freida Thompson Orsbon of Nashville, TN, Bruce Thompson (Sandy) of Cookeville, TN, Wanda Thompson Greene (Ricky) of Nashville, Tommy Thompson (Carol) of High Point, NC; siblings, Marvin Thompson (Willett) of Wrightsville, Doris Peace of Adrian, Carl Thompson (Joyce) of East Dublin, (Molline) Thompson of Adrian; a cousin, Herschel Roland, ofOpelika, AL; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and the funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 21st, at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene, 591 Mt. Olive Church Rd., Wrightsville, with Reverends Jimmy Wright and L.T. Logue officiating. Reverend Thompson will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service.
