James Edward Lafever, age 86 of Baxter passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 17, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born May 12, 1935 in Dekalb County to the late Charlie Lafever and Betty Ann Spears Lafever.

James was a lifelong farmer. He formerly worked at ACME Boot Company in Cookeville and Texas Boot Company in Lebanon. He was a member of Ozion Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Lillie Tinch Lafever; sons: Lynn Lafever of Baxter, Rodney (Tina) Lafever and Dennis (Kim) Lafever - all of Martinsville, Indiana; daughter: Belinda Carter of Baxter; sister: Lillie Merrill Lafever Williams of Baxter; grandchildren: Shane Carter, James (Nicole) Lafever, Linda (James) Dobbs, Cody (Ashley) Lafever, Jared (Mary) Lafever, Sarah Lafever, and Justin (Sarah) Lafever; great-grandchildren: Logan, McKenna, Sawyer, Payton, Lanna, Briley, Lyndon Lafever, Jeffrey Carter, Kaitlyn Dobbs, and Michael Maracle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Solon Spears.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Corey Price, Bro. Richard Stone, and Bro. Clayton Lee officiating. Interment followed at Spears Cemetery.
