'Maggie' Ketron Long.
He was the grandson of Rev. Robert
Houston & Lucinda 'Holt'
Long and Peter Nelson Ketron & Sarah
'Spurrier' Ketron, all
of Afton.
Ray A. Long married Jessie Leona
'Dillinger' and the couple were
married for 56 years. Dad's grandfather,
Rev. Robert Houston Long married them
in his home in Afton.
Dad and Mom had 4 children:
Marjorie Sue -1933-2007
Bobby Ray -1936-1991
Wilkie LeRoy - died at 10 mo. 1939-1940
Phyllis Ann - living
Brother of:
Henry, Frances, Flora, Pearl
Roy, Opal, Jewel, Ruby
Birth Name; Alva Ray Long
Always went by Ray A. Long
Dad was a member of First Baptist
Church-Afton,Ok. He and Mom were
charter members of the Lake Center
Baptist Church on Monkey Island.
A Carpenter by trade, he took great
pride in his work.
Dad built many of the beautiful homes
on Grand Lake. He owned the Long Construction
Company. His cabinet work was
well known throughout the area.
Dad was an avid sports fan, he loved
football, highschool,college
and the professional teams. He also enjoyed
his grandchildren & having his family visit.
Dad loved to play games & croquet when all
the family were together. The grandkids were
pulled around in the yard by Dad on the riding
lawn mower, no blade!
He was always the first to set off the
fireworks on the 4th of July. Dad, Mom &
I would go to the lake every evening in
the summer time, after he came in from work,
take a picnic & fish. He loved to bowl and his construction company sponsered the
team.
In the winter time, when I was young, he
would fix a large sled on the back of his car &
pull all of my friends around town. Mom would always
have hot choclate & cookies ready for us to warm
up on when we got back.
They both loved & enjoyed school activities &
church functions. I can remember when he was
rushed to the Afton Hospital, he had cut his
index finger off while using the joiner saw.
Bob told me one time he was riding
with Dad in the ambulance, going to Grove
Hospital, & the attendent ask if he had all
his limbs, Bob said, Dad held up that finger
with pride, "I'm a carpenter by trade, it's
my mark." LOL
He was a very caring, loving son, husband,
father, & granddad. Dad worked very hard,
giving his family incouragement, dedication
& a loving Christian family home, which I'm
very blessed to have been his baby daughter.

He was registered as a 1/32. His grandfather,
Rev. Robert & his father,Rev.Isaiah, signed
the Final Dawes Rolls, I.T. (Ok).
His Gr.Grandmother, Mahala "Atchley" Long
was the Cherokee lineage, being 1/4. She
was the wife of his Gr.Grandfather,
Maples Long, Harrison, Arkansas, originally
from Tennessee. Maples Long, son of Rev.
George Long 1 and Nancy Elizabeth "Maples" Long. Mahala "Atchley" Long
was the daughter of Benjamin Atchley and
Martha "Chambers" Atchley, all from Tennessee.
