Dora Gertrude Evans was born in April 7, 1922, to Arthur and Flora Evans in Octavia, Nebraska. Her mother passed away when Dora was 4 years old, leaving her father with 9 children. Arthur worked for the railroad and the children were raised between Octavia and the homesteaded land in Mineral City, Minnesota.
On October 3, 1944, Dora was united in marriage to Elvert W. Julien. The first year of their marriage they lived with Elvert's parents, Emil and Hilma Julien. In 1946 they purchased their own farm near Maple Ridge, west of Braham, Minnesota. Their first daughter, VaLarie, was born in 1950 followed in 1952 by daughter, Barbara. In 1953 their barn and cattle were destroyed by a tornado and they moved to the farm on the Isanti-Chisago County line, east of Braham where they lived until 1980, when they retired to their home on Highway 107 south of Braham. Dora worked at the Cambridge State Hospital for over 20 years. In 2005 Dora moved with her daughter, VaLarie and her husband, Steven, to Daytona Beach, Florida.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Elvert; daughter, Barbara Griffith; sisters, Hazel and Harriet; brothers, Leonard, Miland, Edward, George and Eugene; sister-in-law and special friend, Eleanor (Oke) Bondeson and granddaughter, Lisa Griffith.
Dora is survived by her daughter, VaLarie (Steven) Thorkelson of Holly Hill, Florida; her sister, Laura Anna Gucene of Yates Center, Kansas; five grandchildren, Dawn Sundermeyer, Jamison Sundermeyer, Danielle Thorkelson, Robert Griffith and Karmin (Tom) Miskowic; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom were special to her.
Graveside services were held on August 22, 2015, ath the Braham Evangelical Covenant Church in Braham, Minnesota.
