Funeral services for Jimmie Lou Ward, 90, of Fairview, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Fairview with Dr. Stephen Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Fairview.

Jimmie Lou Ward was born October 2, 1930, in Okemah, Oklahoma, to James and Mattie (Rice) Weaver. She departed this life on Sunday, August 15, 2021, in Enid, Oklahoma.

Jimmie Lou was raised at Okemah, Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school. She then attended Oklahoma State University and ultimately earned her bachelor's degree in education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. She married her husband, Gene Ward, on January 27, 1951, in Okemah. She taught English and was the typing teacher at Fairview for many years. Jimmie Lou also taught many local children how to swim. Outside of caring for her family, her greatest treasures were the students she was able to teach. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, canning, and entering her canned goods in the Major County Fair. She also served many years on the Major County election board and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. Jimmie Lou had a strong sense of community and enjoyed shopping locally in Fairview.

Jimmie Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Gene Ward; sister Sue and a brother, Charles; she is survived by her children: daughter Sharon Ward, and son Gary Ward and wife Sherri; two sisters-in-law, Carole Weaver and Peggy Webb; brother-in-law Jim Ward and wife Celia; two grandsons, John Ward and spouse David and Steven Ward and wife Sara; great-grandchildren Dalen Ward and Evan Ward.
