Patsy Secrest (Brittingham) passed away Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, in Dunwoody, Ga. She was born in Lewes Dec. 25, 1947. She was a loving grandma and a devoted wife to Spurgeon Secrest and to Terry Byers. Her parents were Alton Lee Brittingham and Dorothy Virginia Holloway.
Patsy was known for loving the Blues, being a Democrat and her love of cats. She was smart and a little bit quirky. Patsy loved genealogy and did research on her own family but also helped many others find their lost loved ones and/or ancestors. Many will note that she was always about the facts which was shown in her research and in her political debates. She was always game for a political discussion.
Ms. Secrest graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor of arts degree in 1967. Soon after she graduated she got married in Florida to Spurgeon Daniel Secrest. A few years later she had her only child, Heather Janelle Secrest. Five years later the family moved to Georgia and Patsy got a job with the IRS and her career lasted 30 years.
Patsy had diabetes from an early age but she never let it get her down; she had a witty sense of humor which helped get her through the tough times. Even when she was isolated due to COVID she used social media to keep in touch and share her knowledge and wit.
Ms. Secrest is survived by her daughter Heather Bordeaux and her grandchildren: Janelle, Alex and Zoe Bordeaux. She will be missed, but her humor, political outspokenness and her geological efforts will continue to inspire and motivate others.
