Joy Tate, born May 28, 1931, daughter of the late Ethel and E. G. "Bake" Baker from Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away August 15, 2021 at the age of 90 after a brief illness at her home in Cypress, Texas.  She was a student in the Ponca City school system through high school.  She and her husband, Charles Tate, enjoyed traveling, bicycling, snow skiing, boat riding, and gardening.  For the past 30 years, they have been members of the Second Baptist Church of Houston and for many of these years, they enjoyed singing in the church choir.  In her earlier years, she taught music lessons, and played the organ for First Baptist Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where she was raised.  After she retired from teaching music, she worked as an optician for Klein Eye Care in Houston, for several years.

Mrs. Tate is preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Baker and father, E. G. "Bake" Baker of Ponca City, a daughter, Cindy Tate Sunderland, and a great-granddaughter, Sara Griffith.  She is survived by her husband, Charles Tate,  daughters, Debbie Lavergne, Debra Tate Griffith, and son, Buddy Tate, 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Visitation and memorial services will be held at Klein Funeral Home in Cypress, TX.  Visitation will be at 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 18.  Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 19.  Burial services will be at 11:00 am at Prien Memorial Park Cemetary in Lake Charles, LA.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
