Larry Shepherd, 75, of Fremont, died Saturday, August 14, 2021, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born November 21, 1945, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Harry and Lucille Butler Shepherd. He graduated from Fremont High School with the class of 1965. In high school Larry worked for area farmers helping on the farm and doing mechanic work. Following High School graduation Larry was inducted into the United States Army. He served as a field artillery man in Vietnam. On October 6, 1966, he was united in marriage to Janeitta Ilene Ensly in Wichita, Kansas. To this union two children were born Steven and Tianna. Larry and Janeitta later welcomed a daughter Tracy through adoption. Upon his return from Vietnam Larry started his career in the automobile service industry. He worked as the service manager at Good Year, Lafrenz Motors, and Carriker Ford in Oskaloosa. He later took a job at Norris Asphalt as their Parts Manager. He retired from there in 2010 and spent his retirement years with his wife Janeitta until her passing in 2019. Larry loved to watch automobile races, especially NASCAR. He also enjoyed watching mechanic shows on television and Pastor Bob Joyce. He loved to work in his yard and especially loved to mow. He was always willing to offer a helping hand to his friends and neighbors in Fremont. He and Janeitta spent many years hosting foster children in their home.

His family includes his three children and their spouses, Steven and Amanda Shepherd of Fremont, Tianna and Justin Aldridge of Oskaloosa, and Tracy and Jared Sams of Peoria, Illinois; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Richard and Mary Kay Shepherd of Ottumwa; a sister and her husband, Mary Ann and Dennis Goodwin of Fremont; a sister-in-law, Marie Shepherd of Bloomfield; a brother in law, Jerry Downing of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Janeitta, Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ken Shepherd; and a sister, Anna Downing.
