Frank Evans Thompson, born March 9, 1936, died peacefully in sleep on Saturday, August 14, 2021. Frank had been ill for several years and his death brought peace to a brilliant, kind and generous soul.

Frank was proceeded in death by his mother, Dorothy T. Thompson and his father, Frank Evans Thompson, Sr.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marietta S. Thompson, his daughter, Sarah Anne Thompson, and his grandson, Tyler Collin Waters.  He is also survived by his sister, Polly Thompson Marshall (Robert) and his brother-in-law, Rev. Canon James D. Smith (Gerry), and two nieces, four nephews and their spouses, and nine great nieces and nephews.  He had an infectious sense of humor and was loved by all who had the good fortune to know him.

Frank graduated from the University of Maryland and received his Masters and Doctorate in Education from the University of Virginia. He taught through the years at Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, Virginia, Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, and retired from Georgia and at Georgia College & State University here in Milledgeville, GA as full Professor and Chairman of the School of Education in 1996.  Frank loved teaching, was a natural teacher and devoted to his students.  

Frank's favorite times were spent with his dogs.  Frank raised and trained English Pointers.  He campaigned his four-legged companions successfully mostly along the East coast from Florida to New York and across the Canadian prairies from Manitoba to Alberta.  

Services for Frank will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at a later date and time. Visitation will be at Moores Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 7 - 8 PM.
