J R Stroud was born in Kentucky. He was the son of John Stroud, Jr and Mary Elisabeth Baxter. He was a Civil War Veteran. He married Mary Elizabeth Eads in Center City, Kentucky in 1868. He died in Eldorado, Oklahoma, of consumption. He moved from his farm west of Eldorado into town in 1903 and embarked into the coal business.
