Marilyn F. Tackett, age 77, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. She was born at Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, OK to Clifton D. Cates and Gladys M. Cates (Robinson). She lived the last years of her life at the beautiful home built by Marilyn and her husband, Paul in Wagoner, OK.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Edward Tackett and her parents, Clifton and Gladys Cates. She leaves behind her children, Paula and Danny Hewitt of Broken Arrow, Valerie and Bill Scott of Coweta, Keith and Kimmie Tackett of Wagoner; grandchildren, Tara and Tony Cameron of Broken Arrow, Breanne and Nick Bennett of Coweta, Blake Scott of Coweta, Cody and Ashley Scott of Broken Arrow, Kyle Tackett of Wagoner, Rachel and Aaron McGuire of Tulsa; Great grandchildren: Chloe Cameron, Jackson, Rohan and Ryker Bennett; Emma, Elijah, Elizabeth and Nolan Scott.
Marilyn was raised as an only child on her parent's farm east of Broken Arrow. Marilyn loved working outside with her dad. She enjoyed seeing her own garments. Marilyn loved to attend church with her family where she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She attended Evans country school on east 71st during her grade school years. Marilyn attended high school at Broken Arrow High School and graduated in 1961.
When Marilyn was 15 she met Paul Tackett at church. He quickly became the love of her life. They married at South Mission Church in Broken Arrow on June 2, 1961. They started their home in a little trailer on an acre her dad gave them as a wedding present. She told her daughter once that she was lonely as an only child. That Paul's life was so exciting with a large family, lots of activities and many friends.
Marilyn and Paul raised 3 children: Paula, Keith and Valerie. Marilyn made sure her family attended church for every service. She was devoted to her husband, family and God. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, singing and playing the piano for worship service. As a couple Marilyn and Paul were Youth Ministers, Pastored a church and in later years Coordinator of Golden Stars. Marilyn's main focus was to be a Godly wife and mother.
Marilyn raised a garden, canned, and sewed. And had a hot meal every evening. When Valerie was in kindergarten Marilyn started working part time as a substitute teacher for Broken Arrow Schools and for the Broken Arrow Ledger. After a few years she started working fulltime for or the Broken Arrow Schools Administration. Marilyn met many wonderful friends at the School system where she retired after 38 years.
While working full time and raising a family, Paul and Marilyn started purchasing property or run down farms where they would live for several years while remodeling them to sell and start again someplace else. Whatever hobby or project Paul was interested in, Marilyn was there to support him. It wasn't unusual for a friend or an acquaintance to just show up to visit. Marilyn always had something to eat and drink ready.
After Paul's death, Marilyn filled her days with women's Bible studies. She went to luncheons with her retired Broken Arrow co-workers and previous school mates. She was always ready to participate in any event with her family, friends or church. Her children and grandchildren would call on her for prayers because they knew she was a devoted woman of God.
Even in difficult time, Marilyn never lost her faith in the Lord as her rock and protector. Her children can safely say, she never cussed, tasted liquor or smoked and she didn't tolerate that from her family either. Marilyn, the wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and coworker was a perfect example of the Proverbs 31 woman.
