James Louis Dickerson, Jr. of Battle Creek, MI, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at his home in Battle Creek, MI. He was born July 13, 1935 in Memphis, TN the son of James Louis and Lula (Thompson) Dickerson, Sr. James married Joyce I. Sherburn December 31, 1977.
James graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1953 and then moved to Battle Creek and enlisted in the Army. He served in the Korean War and then joined the Army Reserves where he was active until his military retirement in 1995 after 35 years of service. He also worked for the secretary of State for 30 years and retired as a manager after 30 years of service. James was a devoted golfer, who never missed an opportunity to swing those clubs. He was also an avid dancer and loved humming along while grooving to the music. He also enjoyed singing in the choir and sitting on his porch waving at everyone who passed by.
All those who knew James know he loved to laugh and joke around; picking on anyone close to him. He had a contagious smile you just had to love. He enjoyed with a passion spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always passing down his wisdom, teaching new skills, taking nature walks, going to the beach and parks. You never left James without learning something from him. He never met a stranger and once you talked with him you would feel as if you had known him forever. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and will forever be in our hearts.
