AKRON, Iowa -- Leo M. Coates, 76, of Akron, died on Wednesday in a nursing home in South Sioux City after a one-year illness. Services at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Rev. Robert W. Lemmermann, pastor of Riverside United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Masonic service by Riverside Lodge 662.
Mr. Coates was born on March 19, 1910, in Ponca, Nebraska. He married Evelyn Rosenbaum on July 21, 1932, in South Sioux City. They lived in Sioux City from 1940 until his retirement in 1975. He was a carpenter for Dohrman Construction Co. in Sioux City for many years, building nursing homes and churches in the Sioux City area. Since 1977, the couple had lived in Pickstown, South Dakota, during the summer months and Apache Junction, Arizona, during the winter months. They moved to Akron in September, 1986.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Orvil E. of Culver City, California; a daughter, Evelyn Francis of North Sioux City; a sister, Marge Laird of Tacoma, Washington; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
