He was born September 15, 1931 in Albany, Kentucky, a son of the late Selbert and Ermon Hays Byers.
He was a New Castle resident most of his life and had worked several years for Meeks Greenhouse and was retired from Modernfold Industries in New Castle after many years of service. He enjoyed family activities, especially spending time watching Cincinnati Reds Baseball, Indiana Pacers Basketball, and golf tournaments with his son. John also enjoyed tinkering with old lawn mowers, working on various projects in his garage which included working on cars and caring for his vegetable garden. He enjoyed cooking for his family and visiting them as often as possible, especially his siblings.
Left to cherish his loving memory include his son, Mike Byers, and one granddaughter, Shaye Byers of Springport, Indiana; seven siblings, Nadine Dalton (husband, Don) of New Castle, Elaine Craft (husband, Joe) of Somerset, Kentucky, Mary Brown (husband, Larry) of Albany, Kentucky, Earl Byers (wife, Susan) of Frankfort, Kentucky, Weldon Byers (wife, Marilyn) of Albany, Kentucky, Lois Thrasher (husband, Bobby) of Albany, Kentucky, Stevie Byers (wife, Anna Ruth) of Albany, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 65 years, Charlene Byers; one sister, Betty Eula Byers Piercey; one brother, Arthur Harmon Byers.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 16, 2021 with Pastor Larry Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery
