Bobby Layne Sanders

Shreveport - Bobby Layne Sanders, 67, of Shreveport, LA, passed away on August 12, 2021.

He was born in Shreveport, LA, on December 25, 1953, son of Thomas and Mary Black Sanders. He is survived by his father, Thomas "Tom" Sanders of Shreveport, children; Chris and wife Christy Sanders of Brownsboro, TX, Ginnie and husband Blake Baldridge of Brownsboro, TX, Danielle and husband Daniel Wright of Brownsboro, TX and Blayne and wife Ashley Sanders of Brownsboro, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Harley and wife Haley Sanders, Tucker Sanders; Danton and Deklan Wright; Carson, Sawyer and Sydney Baldridge; Layton and Lawson Sanders. Brother Dece Sanders of Greenwood, LA; sister Patti and husband Ronnie Tuminello of Bossier City, LA; sister Tammy and husband Peter Lachapelle of Mobile, AL; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Black Sanders, sister Penny Sanders, grandson Paxton Sanders and brother in law Randy Parrish.

Bobby graduated from Fairpark High School in 1973. From there he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA where he was honorably discharged. He spent 28 years working for KCS Railroad where he worked his way up from a roundhouse worker to an engineer before retiring.

From the day he was born, Bobby lived his life on full throttle, literally. He was a gear head through and through. It started with adding lawn mower engines to his bicycle, sans brakes, and evolved to suping up whatever vehicle he had available at the time to drag race, to modifying high performance race boats. His love for anything motor related was evident to anyone who knew him. In the 80's Bobby joined the Southern Outboard Racing Association (SORA) circuit. Bobby quickly found his way to the winner's circles and later became a legend on the racing scene. Even after he finished racing competitively, he stayed closely involved with boat racing. He was one of the founding fathers of the By-U-Boyz Northern Chapter which hosted an annual Red River Rally. He participated in numerous similar events all over the South. The boating community will greatly miss the knowledge and expertise he openly shared with all.

As much as Bobby loved all things racing, his true love was his family. His four children are truly his greatest legacy. His love for his children and grandchildren was evident to anyone who spoke with him. He passed down not only knowledge but his sense of family pride and traditions. Bobby was always present at events his kids were involved in, and they were very involved, from swimming, to band, cheerleading, basketball, baseball, twirling, anything they were a part of, he was there to support. This followed through to his grandkids as well, he was extremely proud of each and every one of their individual talents.

Lake Greeson, Arkansas, The Narrows, was a particularly special place for all of the Sanders family. From the time Bobby was a small boy his family vacationed here. They would swim, fish, ski, ride saucer boards and just spend time in nature. It is a tradition that still carries on with family and close friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 4th at Red River South Marina, 250 Red River South Marina Rd, Bossier City LA 71112. We will have a memorial service then hit the river to celebrate Bobby the true way he wanted.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory to the PALS Foundation Scholarship which was created to honor Bobby's grandson, Paxton Sanders. Checks can be mailed to PO Box 133 Chandler, TX 75758 or sent through PayPal to [email protected].
