Cynthia (Pharris) Owen was born on January 12, 1956 in Tennessee, the daughter of Margaret Jean "Mattie" (Cox) (Pharris) McCord (1933–2017) and her 1st husband Johnie Dowell Pharris (1828-1980). Her parents were divorced in 1960, and Mattie was married 2nd to Perry Dean McCord (1934–2014).
Cynthia attended DuPont Elementary School and graduated from DuPont High School in Hermitage, Tennessee.
She was married on December 4, 1974 to Roy Samuel "Sam" Owen.
Employed for 31 years with United Methodist Publishing and a printing production supervisor, Cynthia had also worked with Gaylord Entertainment.
In Greenbrier, Robertson County, she was 65 years old when she died of cancer on August 11, 2021.
Survivors included her husband, two sons, two granddaughters, a sister and cousins.
Celebration of Life Services were held with immediate family, and her body was cremated.
