He was raised north of Newtown and graduated from Fountain Central High School in 1966. He later graduated from Purdue University in 1970 with a degree in agronomy. While attending school at Purdue University, he was a member of the Kneale House. He was presently engaged in farming with his sons.
He was a member of the Newtown Community Church; Richland Lodge 205 F.&A.M., where he had served as past master and as secretary; Zorah Shrine Valley of Terre Haute; and Fern Chapter, O.E.S. 194. He was presently serving on the Fountain County Sheriff's Merit Board at the time of his death. He served on the board of the Southeast Fountain Holding Corp.; was a member of the Attica Lions Club; and had served as the Richland Township Trustee. He had also served in the Indiana National Guard.
Survivors besides his wife include: sons, John Daniel and Joshua Thomas Kirkpatrick, both students at Purdue University, James Lawrence Kirkpatrick, at home; his father, Attica; and sister, Janet (Wallace) Hooker, Attica. Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Newtown Community Church with the Revs. John Like and Bill Blessing officiating. Burial was in Meharry Cemetery, near Wingate.
