Kathryn J. "Kate" Parsons, 94, formerly a resident for ten years of Cedar Grove Personal Care Home died Friday April 26, 2002 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Parkersburg.

She was born November 13, 1907 in Parkersburg a daughter of the Late Charles R. and V. Mae Towles Johnson. She was an 82-year member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church active in the Mission Circle and the Philathea Class. She enjoyed working with crafts and sharing them with friends and family. She was an active volunteer and member of the American Red Cross as well as the Camden Clark Hospital Auxiliary. She worked for American Viscose in the cafeteria and later worked for Dupont's cafeteria for several years.

A son and daughter-in-law Robert and Dottie Parsons of Howard, Ohio and a daughter M. Jane Sheppard of Mineral Wells survive her. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Michael Parsons and his wife Paula of League City, Texas, Brenda Keiser, Randi Hornback and her husband Scott all of Powell, Ohio, Sharon Bird and her husband Dennis of Newtown, Pennsylvania, Nancy Emerick of Mineral Wells, Jo Ann Hardin and husband Gary of Parkersburg, and Robert Sheppard and his wife Anita of Syracuse, Ohio, eleven great grandchildren; David Keiser, Brittany Hornback, Kyle Hornback, Kathi Cariola, Scott Bird, Matthew Bird, Kristin Rice, Jodi Whited, Lee Ann Whited, Bill Sheppard, Tom Sheppard, one great-great grandson Marcus Andrew Whited, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents her husband Wilbur C. Parsons preceded her in death in 1978 after 51 year of marriage. Also preceding her were five brothers; Kenneth Johnson, Carl Johnson, William Johnson, Harold Johnson, and Ralph Johnson, two sisters; Hazel Hannaman and Caroline Armstrong and a son-in-law Theodore "Ted" Sheppard, Jr.

Services will be 11 AM Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with Reverend Donald Biran officiating. Burial will be in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
