A former Pittsboro resident, Bessie R. Carter, 84, died Monday afternoon, May 24 at Golden Manor Health Care Center, Brownsburg, where she resided seven years. A Rockwood, Tennessee native, she was born July 1, 1897 to Alexander and Mary Farmer. In January, 1914, she was married to Ernest L. Carter at Rockwood. He died September 12, 1965. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Church of Christ, Brownsburg. Survivors include six children, Bill Carter, Harlan, Kentucky, Fred Carter, Paris, Tennessee, Carl Carter, Camby, Freeman Carter, Pittsboro, Gladys Kidd, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lois Carlton, Indianapolis; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, James Clay and Charles Lester Carter, and a daughter, Dorothy Marie, are deceased. Rev. Kenneth Cooper officiated at the services Thursday morning, May 27 at the David A. Hall Mortuary, Pittsboro, and interment was in the Brownsburg Cemetery, Inc.
