British Lawyer, Politician. He was the son of David Soskice, an exiled Russian revolutionary journalist and his mother came from a family of noted poets and artists. He was educated at the Froebel Demonstration School, St Paul's School London, and Balliol College in Oxford. He studied law and was called to the bar at Inner Temple in 1926. He served in the British Army during World War II with the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. After the war, he entered politics: Member of Parliament, Home Secretary in the Wilson Government of 1964, later raised to the Peerage as Lord Stow Hill.
