Donald George Murray
September 4, 1943 – May 11, 2021
Don Murray was born September 4, 1943 in Great Falls, MT to Lloyd & Marguerite Murray.
Don was the second of five children: Ken, Robert (deceased), Marla Young and David. He graduated from Great Falls Central High School in 1961 and went on to attend The College of Great Falls. Upon graduation he taught at the high School in Big Sandy, MT where he was the music and history teacher.
In college he met the love of his life, Colleen (Kelley) Murray who grew up in Butte and also attended the College of Great Falls. They married in 1968, spending the next 53 years together, raising a family that eventually included three children and seven grandchildren.
In 1969, Don and Colleen moved to Eugene so Don could attend graduate school at the University of Oregon. In 1973 Don earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. Don and Colleen were blessed with many friends in the Eugene community and decided to make it their home.
Following graduation, Don founded the consulting firm, Don Murray & Associates. In the 1970s Don became a team psychologist to U.S.A. men's volleyball, helping the team that eventually won the Gold medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Don was a longtime member of the Eugene Executives Association and eventually served a term as President. He enjoyed the many close friendships and business partnerships that evolved from his association with EEA.
Don was a devout Catholic and his faith was a central part of his life. He often volunteered his services, helping other Catholic parishes, schools and hospitals.
One of Don's great joys in life was being a member of the Irish Echo, a group of musicians who play traditional Irish music. The members of the band became close friends and Don enjoyed learning and performing music that drew on his own Irish heritage.
Don was also a big supporter of University of Oregon athletics, becoming a long-time season ticket holder for football. He enjoyed hosting a tailgate at Autzen stadium where each Fall he connected with cherished friends in the community.
Don took great joy in family. He dearly loved his nieces, nephews, siblings, in-laws and friends. Nothing made him happier than to be in the center of a big family gathering. His legacy will live on in all our hearts.
Don was a loving husband and devoted father. He is survived by his wife Colleen, his three children, Julie Fulton (Daniel "Pancho"), Sean (Francine), and Kevin (Kate), and by his seven grandchildren; Max, Sam, Lucy, Will, Annie, Finn and Nora. He relished being a grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.
