Raquel Ruth (Matta) Garcia, 76, of Rosenberg, Texas, passed away on August 7, 2021.

There will be a visitation and brief service at 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel, 3900 B. F. Terry Blvd, Rosenberg, TX 77471. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am on Monday, August 16, 2021, at Templo Gethsemani Assembly of God Church, 3102 Ave N, Rosenberg, TX 77471. Services are being officiated by Reverend Paul R. Matta of Abilene, TX. Assisted my Pastor Arnoldo Gomez, Pastor Fernando Gutierrez, and Pastor Samuel B. Matta.

Raquel Ruth Matta Garcia was born on Thursday, January 11, 1945 in Big Spring, TX to Reverend Frank M. Matta and Ascension B. Matta. From an early age, Raquel loved ministry and in 1962 she attended the Latin American Bible Institute in El Paso, TX. She married Gilbert Garcia Sr. in 1968 and they were married until his passing in February 2000.

In 1980, Raquel was a Physical Therapist Assistant. Later that year, at the age of 35, she attended a program to become a Certified Occupational Assistant. That became her livelihood for more than 36 years with the Richmond State School. She also furthered her education by attending Wharton County Junior College. Raquel was a member of Gethsemani Assembly of God Church in Rosenberg, TX. Raquel ministered to and mentored many women of all ages; planting seeds of faith in GOD'S garden of beautiful flowers. Throughout her life, she received many certificates of appreciation, including trophies, plaques, and crowns for her dedication to various ministries and from the Texas Dept. of Mental Health.

Raquel lived a full life of loving, giving, ministry, and faithfulness, blessing many lives.
On Saturday August 7, 2021, surrounded by her beautiful family and friends, Raquel Ruth Matta Garcia, left our presence to enter into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Though we hurt and grieve her passing, we rejoice that she is no longer suffering and that she is with loved ones gone before. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Raquel is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Garcia Sr.; her parents; and other family members, including Joshua Matta, Michael Matta, Rev. Frank M. Matta Jr., Faustino and Guadalupe Garcia, Faustino Garcia Jr., Joel Camhi, Sarah Alaniz, Efraim Ramirez, and Abby Vargues.

Those left behind to cherish and share her memories are her sons, Gilbert Garcia Jr. and wife, Belinda, Faustino Garcia and wife, Veronica, and Frank Garcia and wife, Lisa; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Samuel B. Matta and wife, Esther, Finees Matta and wife, Dahlia, Lidia Matta Humble, Daniel Matta, Beatrice Matta, Bob Matta and wife, Cathy, Lee Roy Matta, Paul R. Matta and wife, Alma, Carolyn Matta Martin, Richard Matta, Ruben Matta, and many loved nephews, nieces, and other family and friends.

We thank the pallbearers for escorting Raquel to her resting place. They are David Garcia, Frank Garcia Jr., Jacob Garcia, Nick Garcia, Ruben Sanchez, and Jerry Mendoza. Honorary pallbearers are Ina Messiah Garcia, Carlos Ramirez, and Ayden Rodriquez.
