MORRISTOWN - A Syracuse couple died yesterday morning after their car was involved in a head-on crash with a tractor trailer on Route 12 about four miles outside of the village of Morristown, St. Lawrence County, state police said.
The driver of the car, Josephine V. Clemo, 77, and her husband, Charles D. Clemo, 78, of 502 Ulster St., were pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Hugh Frame, St. Lawrence County coroner, troopers based in Ogdensburg said.
Results of an autopsy were not available last night.
Troopers said the Clemo auto was traveling northeast on Route 12 when it was struck head-on by a tractor-trailer driven by David B. Jordan, 29, of Union Springs.
Troopers said Jordan fell asleep while driving and veered his vehicle into the other lane, first striking the side of another tractor-trailer and then the Clemo car.
Neither Jordan nor the driver of the other tractor-trailer, David E. Card, 34, of Skaneateles, was seriously injured.
Jordan was charged with failure to keep right, having no log book and reckless driving, troopers said.
He was arraigned by Morristown Town Justice James T. Philips and was sent to county jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail, troopers said.
He is scheduled to reappear Monday in court.
