William Benson Hodge, age 78, of Rock Springs Rd. Mill Spring, NC passed away Monday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Benson was a native of Rutherford County and a retired Rutherford County Building Inspector. He held certificates in electrical, plumbing and building inspection and taught classes to certify others in these field. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Polk County.

Those preceding him in death include his parents William Orell and Lena Sparks Hodge and a brother Harold "Gomer" Hodge.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Rachel Hodge of the home, children Mickey (Mary Alice) Hodge of Denver, NC, Ricky Hodge (Kimberly) of Edneyville, Tracy (Jimmy) Crowe of Rutherfordton; step children Allen (Sherry) Price of Rutherfordton, Barbara Ferree of Mill Spring; brother Danny Hodge (Jennifer) of Florida; sisters Martina Tony of Ellenboro, Pat Hodge of Rutherfordton, Diane (Ricky) Holland of Rutherfordton; grandchildren Andy Harbin, Betsy LeFevers, Cody Hodge, Kaylah Bryant, Whitney Wooten, Jordon Crowe, Heidi Barnes, Brooke Price, Michael Price and Brent Ferree; 14 great grandchildren.

A celebration of the life of Benson Hodge will be 2 PM Thursday July 22 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Polk County with Rev. Matt Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service.
