Doug was son of the late K.C. and Bessie (Bumpers) Young. Doug was born in Crosby, MS, on February 13, 1938, and was a twin to Beverly Antoinette, who died at age one. He was a member of the United States Navy from September 13, 1957, until September 11, 1961, proudly serving aboard the U.S.S. O'Brien. He was a machinist by trade, working in New Orleans and on the Gulf Coast. Doug was an avid sports fan and could talk for hours about any Mississippi team. He was the beloved brother of Kay (Tini) Young, of Mechanicsville, VA, and Rodney (and the late Ann) Young, of West Point, GA, Sue (Craig) Dowling, of Pine Mountain, GA, and the late Don (Cookie) Young. He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Edith was the daughter of the late Alejandro and Isabel (Shields) Silva. Edith was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on October 21, 1934. She moved to the United States in 1964 and worked at the Mexican Consulate in New Orleans, LA, where she and Doug met. She proudly became a United States citizen on October 4, 1971. Edith was an artist by trade. Her art was displayed in Mexico City and across the Gulf Coast. Edith is cherished by her only sister, Nelly (and the late Salvador) Sanchez, of Mexico, and her niece and nephew.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi, MS. Visitation will begin at 10 am with the service following at 11 am. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
