Helen J. Stone, 86, of Bucyrus passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Altercare of Bucyrus. Helen was born October 1, 1934 in Tiffin, OH, to the late Clifton and Glenna (Leslie) Coffman. She was married May 1, 1953 to Harold E. "Buck" Hartman, who preceded her in death July 3, 1986. She was married September 2, 1988 to Charles L. "Charlie" Stone, who preceded her in death on April 15, 2019. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister (Leo and Alma) who died as infants; one brother (Harold); and two sisters-in-law (Pat – wife of Clarence; and Mary Ann – wife of Harold).

Helen is survived by children Leonard Kyle (Anne-Francoise) Hartman and Lawrence Keith Hartman; two brothers – Clarence and Jack (Jo Ann); three grandchildren – Elizabeth (Dany) Galano, Katherine (boyfriend Mike Rocco) Hartman, and Logan (Hannah) Hartman; as well as great-granddaughter Lyla Hartman. Elizabeth and Dany are expecting Helen's second great-grandchild in October of this year. Helen is also survived by several nieces and nephews – Betty, Brian, Janet, Stephen, Susan, Jane, Rose, David, Gary, Karen, and John, and their families, as well as two sisters-in-law Chris (widow of Harold) and Carol Gillespie (sister of Charlie), and other members of Charlie's family, Finally, Helen wanted to recognize two "special young men" (as she called them) – Kelly and Matthew Echelberry.

Helen was raised on a farm (with a 3-story barn and tall trees that she enjoyed climbing, and a north-south road where, as a very young girl, she often went for walks without telling her mother . . . . ) north of Carey, OH and graduated in 1952 from Carey High School. She worked in a restaurant as a waitress and in a factory, both in Findlay, OH, prior to marrying and moving to Bucyrus. She was a member of the Bucyrus First Baptist Church (where she served as a board member), the Eagles, and the Amvets.
Helen was very active in her church (particularly the Crafty Ladies group which made crafts for fundraising for the church) and in the community at large, a dedicated and hard-working volunteer for many causes, a major annual blood donor for the Red Cross, a big supporter of the Crawford Park District, and a great lover of nature in general, who enjoyed car rides throughout the town and countryside (with Buck, Charlie, Kyle, her great friend Jeaness Ryland, and anyone else who might be interested in going for a ride). She loved trees, clouds, farm fields, and interesting buildings seen along the way. She took great care of her home and her yard – keeping things immaculate and in order. She was often seen to be sweeping pine needles from her sidewalk and gathering up fallen pine cones. She enjoyed working with puzzle books. First and foremost, she was a tremendous wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her. She had a great sense of humor, liked to joke with people, was always upbeat, and tried to see good in everyone she met. She was especially fond of children. As one of her friends recently remarked, she was a great person, who had a real and positive impact on everyone she met. Everyone who knew her or even had just met her will miss her, but they all know that she had led a great life, had a great family and great friends, and that she has undoubtedly already been well received in heaven and will be a force for good there as she had always been here on this earth.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday August 13, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Since Covid remains a real threat in our community, the family asks everyone to wear a mask while in the funeral home. Graveside Services will be held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made, if you wish to do so, to whatever organization or cause that you think worthy of support.
