Kelvin was the son of Arthur Jones and Gladys Jones. He was educated in the Bibb County School System and was a graduate of Southwest High School in Macon, Georgia. He attended Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan where he graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor Degree in Commercial Art and a Minor in Sociology. He enjoyed sketching and photography.

Graveside services were held Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 11AM in the Patterson Family Cemetery in Gray, Georgia.
