_____________________________________________________
Slaying occurred at home of Mrs. Loraine Seaman. Conflicting stories of murder are told; self defense is given police by alleged killer.

Jacksonville, July 5 --- Mallory Jones, ninth district constable, was shot and killed Friday night about 6 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Loraine Seaman, of Panama Park, and John H. Strunk, telegraph operator, is being held, charged with the murder.

Nobody knew that Jones had been killed until his body was found yesterday about 6:30 o'clock about two hundred yards from the front of the woman's house, near Fifty-first and Main streets. Strunk was arrested a few minutes later at his 617 Laura Street home, unaware, he said, that he had killed Jones. Self defense is his plea.

Jones was shot once in his left side just above the heart. The bullet from a .38 calibre automatic tore through his body and came out in the back.

Jacksonville, July 6 --- Funeral Services for Mallory Jones were held yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the chapel of Marcus Conant.

The services first were set for Monday morning at 10 o'clock but brothers of Jones in the city, wishing to be back in Starke where the dead man's mother is said to be critically ill, arranged to have them held yesterday afternoon. The Rev. A. C. Shuller, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiated, and burial was in West Evergreen Cemetery.

Pallbearers were. J. T. Rouse, P. Guy Crews, Ellis Pickett, H. H. Burns and Jack Parfitt.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Mary N. Jones; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Jones of Starke; brothers, James C. Jones and Fred Jones both of Starke, W. C. Jones of Jacksonville, and Oliver Jones of Dade City; sister, Mrs. Jessie Prevatt of Hampton.
