James Edward Stokes, entered into his eternal glory on August 9, 2021.

He was born in Byron, GA on September 21, 1936 to James Preston Stokes and Gertrude Shropshire Stokes.

A celebration of life will be held on August 13, 2021 at Porterfield Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Bill Hardy and Bob Hamilton officiating. The family will greet friends at 1:00 pm until service time. Interment will be held immediately following the service at New Elim Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Stokes proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He retired from Air Force life in 1974 and returned Macon Georgia. He worked for over 20 years at Robins Air Force Base as an air plane mechanic.

He loved to tinker in his shop, travel, work in his garden and spend time with his family. He was a very skilled mechanic. He always said that he could fix anything but a broken heart.

He never met a stranger. Mr. Stokes was a member of Porterfield Baptist Church, Men's Sunday School. He was an ordained deacon and served his church and community. He served faithfully with the Gideon's International, Bibb South Camp.

Mr. Stokes lived a long wholesome and devout Christian life. He was the epitome of what used to be the moral fabric of this great nation. You could go on and on about this man's character, values and beliefs but for those that knew him, there is no reason because he lived them every day.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Patricia Stokes, parents JP and Gertrude Stokes and brother, Terry Stokes (#108889075).

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Cindy and David Stephens, Mike and Stacey Stokes and Tracey Landreth; Grandchildren, Sam and Mary Kathryn Stokes, John Stokes, Christina Stokes, Matthew Day, Bryan and Megan Landreth, Jason and Abigail Landreth, Sara Landreth, Steven Landreth, Shane and DeShanna Stephens. Great grandchildren Freya Landreth Shepherd Stokes, Dawson and Dayna Stephens; sister Sharon Mitchell.
