Revolutionary War veteran. Served as a private in Capt. Thomas Clark's Company of the Cumberland County Militia and later in Capt. John Pearson's Company of the 9th Pennsylvania Regiment. From a deposition given by his brother, William, we know that George's family was living in Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1739 and moved to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania about 1750. When this family arrived in Chester County is uncertain. Family tradition tells us that they came to America from Scotland after living for a time in County Down in Northern Ireland. George may have been born in Scotland, County Down, or Pennsylvania. He married Martha Watson about 1762. They farmed in Middleton Township and later West Pennsborro Township in Cumberland County. About 1773 George and Martha moved to Tyrone Township in what is now Perry County, Pennsylvania at what is now the town of Green Park. They had the following children:
William Douglass (1765-1852), m. Mary Scott
Sarah Douglass (1767-1854), m. (1) Alexander McClure, (2) Robert Adams
Martha Douglass (1776-1856), m. George Anderson
Watson Douglass (1782-1833), m. Isabella Coffey
Elizabeth Douglass, m. Alexander Morrow
Margaret Douglass, m. Samuel(?) Scott
George Douglass, d. 1823, never married

George made his will on 28 Jul 1798 and it was probated on 2 Jun 1801.
