Swansboro-Janice Hopkins, 74, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Carteret Healthcare with her family by her side. She was born May 20, 1946, daughter of the late Joseph Kristal & Renee Lubash Kristal.
Janice grew up in New Jersey and went to NYU in Brooklyn, NY and began her government employment with United States Customs. She then went to work for United States Postal Service where she met her husband in 1982. They married in 1983 and lived in Flushing, NY then Levitown, NY. She was a member of the Wantagh Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. They retired and moved to North Carolina in 2007. During her time in North Carolina she was an avid Amateur Radio Operator, Net Control for Newport Skywarn and Public Information Officer for Amateur Radio Relay League.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Wrubel & son in law John Wrubel and one faithful furry cat named Buggsy, of Swansboro, NC; and sister Phyllis Kristal, of Brookline, MA. She also leaves behind several nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends and loved ones whom she kept dearly in her heart. She will be deeply and truly missed.
She was preceded in death, by a mere 23 days, by her husband of 37 years, and love of her life, John Hopkins Jr. They are whole and together again in love watching over us all.
John Joseph Hopkins Jr and his wife Janice Kristal Hopkins will be given a double burial service on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, NC. The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home in Swansboro, NC on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
