Ruth E. Clark, 96, of Tipton, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton.

Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 12, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Manor Nursing Home or the Tipton Library, in her memory.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 12, at Fry funeral Home in Tipton, with Pastor Cynthia Ryssemus officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Cemetery, rural Wilton, Iowa.

Ruth Elizabeth Hinkhouse was born July 4, 1925, in Muscatine, the daughter of Elmer and Freda (Swenson) Hinkhouse. She attended Sharon Country School and graduated from Wilton High School at age 16, with the Class of 1941. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Parsons College and her Master's Degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She first taught at Earlham School, then at the Sac and Fox Settlement School in Tama. She married Herbert Eugene Clark. Together they moved to Tipton and taught junior high Speech and Social Studies at Bennett High School for 25 years, until she retired in 1986. Herbert preceded her in death on August 23, 1999. She was very active in Tipton and served on the Tipton Library Board for 45 years, was a member of the P.E.O., Chapter DY, the Tri Sigmas and a member of the Tipton United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Krista (Danny Ford) Clark of Tipton and Maeve Clark of Iowa City; three sons, Arthur (Debbie) Clark of Sugarland, TX, Brian (Trish Rafferty) Clark of Middleton, WI, and Stuart (Sharon) Clark of Tipton; five grandchildren, Mathew Clark of Olympia, WA, Madelyn and Anders Clark of Middleton, WI, Caitlyn Clark of Sugarland, TX, and Erin Clark of Lake Mills, WI; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, John Hinkhouse.
