Mary Annie was born in Dunleath to Scottish immigrants who left the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland in 1889. Her parents Ronald Mackay and Marion Mclennan left Saskatchewan and relocated in Manitoba where Mary Annie met and married Clinton Elmer Jones. Mary Annie had three daughters with Clinton Elmer including Marion, Joyce, and Dona. The family moved westward to British Columbia where they settled on Lulu Island. After her death, Clinton Elmer returned to Manitoba.
