George Edward Rich, 93, of Hartford, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at home. He was the beloved husband of Fannie (neé James) for 65 years.
Born in Butler County, AL, on May 25, 1927, he was the eldest child of the late George Rich and Callie (née Jones).
He was a Machine Shop Foreman at Pratt & Whitney, retiring after 17 years. He took a part-time job driving busses for Hartford Public Schools to safely ensure his young kids got to school, and the world was changed forever. He loved that job, and it lasted well into his retirement years.
George was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. After serving in the military, he returned to Alabama, where he married the love of his life, Fannie (née James), on Easter Sunday, 1955.
He was a devout member of Hopewell Baptist Church for over 50 years and a beloved member and former Trustee of the Senior Usher Board. He was also an active member of the VFW Post, The Masons of Connecticut, and the Connecticut Elks Association's Hartford Chapter, where he served as secretary for many years.
He was known as Mr. Rich, George, Bubba, GR, G-Money, Daeda. George is survived by his wife Fannie, children, Ronald J. Rich, Rev. Kathryne C. Sams, Agnes L. Rich-Carter, Jacquelyn D. Rich, James E. Rich and Andre Rich.
He is also survived by his sister Gussie Delores Curry. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
