Rachel "Marie" Chase (Waanatan), age 49, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 5, 2021. Rachel was being cared for at the Moorhead rehabilitation center and passed as her daughter Hope and Faith were coming to see her. She passed peacefully before they arrived.

Rachel Chase was born on June 18, 1972, in Devils Lake, ND. She was the only girl along with her two brothers Paul and Cody. Her parents were Stephanie and Herbert Cavanaugh. She was married once to Myron Chase in 1996 and later divorced in 1999, they were together for 10 years.

Proceeded in death by her mother Stephanie Cavanaugh, Father: Herbert Cavanaugh, Grandparents: Francise and Joan Waanatan, Uncle: John Anderson, Daughter: Destiny

Survived by her sons Lance Chase (Gillette, WY), Hunter Murphy (Bismarck, ND), Daughters: Faith Petersen (Fargo, ND), Hope Petersen (Fargo, ND), Julia Loven (Bismarck, ND); Aunts, Lila Anderson, Maxine Buckles, Helena Littleghost, Elizabeth Littleghost, Brothers, Cody Waanatan, Paul Cavanaugh

Rachel was raised with her two brothers and many cousins. She was taken in at a young age by her aunt Lila and Uncle John Anderson. She was a rambunctious toddler and was always getting into trouble. She argued often with her brother Paul, like brother and sister do, but they loved each other anyway. She tended to spend her time with relatives. She enjoyed riding bike, playing volleyball in the backyard, and jumping on the trampoline.

Rachel was a caring person. She was enjoyable to be around and have conversations with. She enjoyed trying new things and re decorating or organizing. A story that Lance (Rachel's son) remembers is how they would always go to the M & H gas station on Saturdays and get the 99-cent milkshake and hot dogs before they spent the rest of the day at garage sales. She was always motherly, caring, loving. She was always thinking and worrying about her kids.

She didn't finish High school or college, but she was always proud of her children for all their accomplishments. Myron said that she would call him and talk about her children often and how proud she was. He also shared a fond memory of how she rode an elephant at the Denver Zoo and how embarrassed she was. They would go to Viking games in Minneapolis and went to Yellowstone. They were married for 10 years and stayed lifelong friends.

Whenever Rachel would see her children, she usually had a small gift with her to give. She was a strong woman and always told her children to stay strong no matter what. She was kind and loving and showed it in many ways. She came to many of Hope's tennis games and Faith's dance competitions. She was very supportive of her children's successes. She always loved having pets, she even had a pet bird named tweety.

When her children were little, she would let each of them pick a story to read to them until they fell asleep. She had a big heart and gave what she had when she could. Her laugh was contagious, and her soul was sweet. She often put others first, she cared for her family, her children, her plants, and her dog Nyx. She will always be remembered for having a caring heart.
