His obit from The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY of August 26, 1929 reads: "Patrolman Robert E. McGalin, 52, 10 years service in the Negro section of Louisville, Kentucky died at the City Hospital of Louisville, KY., Sunday morning from four bullet wounds received in a battle with a Negro in Woods Alley between Ninth and 10th Streets at 2:10 o'clock Sunday morning. Joined the force October 1919, Second District. Survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie McGalin, two sons; Robert E. McGalin and Charles Edward McGalin, one daughter, Miss Mary Louise McGalin, two brothers Clarence McGalin and William McGalin and two sisters, Mrs.A.S. Brown and Mrs. F. B. Spencer of Little Rock, Ark. He was a member of the Modern Woodsmen of the World and of Banner Country Order United American Mechanics. Buried in Resthaven Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky."
