Betty was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on September 18, 1930 to Samuel Sprott Shelton and Pauline Christian Shelton. She received her Master's Degree from the University of Alabama in Education. Betty taught school at Progress Elementary, Osyka, and in the Tuscaloosa School Districts. She loved life and enjoyed it fully. She spent time traveling and watching Alabama football. Betty will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; George Simmons, a brother; Jack Shelton and a sister; Mary Francis Rogers.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Charlotte Shelton of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends and other relatives.
