David B. Swanson, 79, passed away on August 4, 2021.

He was born in Des Moines on January 17, 1942, the son of Roy and Veta Swanson. David was a graduate of North High School in Des Moines.

He enjoyed his work at Hawkeye Food Systems where the customers became lifelong friends.

Following retirement, he found joy in woodworking as well as feeding the numerous birds and squirrels that would visit his yard.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, David's family was the greatest joy of his life. He cherished the many family vacations, especially to Minnesota, where days were spent boating and fishing.

David, along with his wife Terry, had many fun outings with the River Rats, a group of friends they traveled and went boating with. In retirement, David and Terry also enjoyed traveling.

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Terry; children, Wende (Alex) Galindo and Kelle (Jack) Molloy; grandchildren, Emily, Caroline, Leo, and Jackson; his sisters, Sue (Steven) Fleming and Marcia (Alan) O'Neal; as well as many nieces, nephews, other loving family and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Lynn Swanson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
