Dane Hughes, 57, of Cadiz, died Monday, July 26, 2021, at Tri-Star Southern Hills in Nashville. He was born Sept. 18, 1963, in Paducah, the son of Cynthia Cruce Bender and the late Ronald Duane Hughes.

A 1981 graduate of Trigg County High School, Hughes began work as a Trigg County dispatcher in 1986, the start of a lifetime career in law enforcement. He served as a Trigg County jailer, Cadiz Police Department, Trigg County Sheriff's Office, and a detective with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force. He retired in December at the rank of Major. He was the current 2nd Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Hopkinsville Lodge # 12 and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel for his community service.

He is survived by his daughter, Brittany Hughes of Cadiz; his mother, Cynthia Cruce Bender of Cadiz; and a sister, Misty Adams of Melbourne, Fla.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Claude and Juanita Cruce.

Funeral services were Friday, July 30 at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz with Rev. James Shuck officiating and Hollis Alexander and Randy Clark as eulogists. Burial was in Crayne Cemetery.
