LOIS JEAN "SISSY" NELSON, 75 years of age of Vansant, VA, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Pikeville Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Vansant, VA, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Pinkie (Deel) Yates. She was a lifelong resident of Deskins and a member of Vansant Church of Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was the ultimate homemaker. A former employee of Pauls Diner in Grundy, VA, she also worked at a local shoe store in town. She enjoyed cleaning, drinking coffee and was an accomplished seamstress.

In addition to her parents, she was greeted in heaven by her husband, Kermit Avery Nelson; 2-Sisters: Shirley Horn and Lula Stanley; 2-Brothers: Roger Yates and Bobby Gene Yates.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Tonya Etta Nelson (Keith) Helton of Haw River, NC; Granddaughter: Lauren Ashton Helton (Bryan) Shoffner of Graham, NC; Great-Granddaughter: Avery Kate Shoffner of Graham, NC; Honorary Grandchild: Cole Alexander Viers; Sister: Patsy Grey of Richlands, VA.

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M.

Funeral Services for LOIS JEAN "SISSY" NELSON will be conducted Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Rife (Vansant Church of Christ) officiating with burial to follow at the Yates Cemetery on Deskins.

Active Pallbearers will be Bryan Shoffner, Keith Helton, Anthony Viers, Shane Horn, Shane Gilbert, Josh Horn, Junior Yates, Cole Viers, Gage Stacy and Robert Deel.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Albert Horn, Tim Stacy, Ernie Church, Mark Grey, Rickey Horn and Elders and Deacons of Vansant Church of Christ.
