Paul Stanley Scott was born to J.B. and Madge Neal Scott on July 27, 1944 in Fairfield, California where J.B. was serving as a mechanic in the Air Transport Command. Paul left his earthly home on August 5, 2021. They moved back to Tulia, Texas when Paul was three months old. Paul grew up and attended school through fifth grade in Tulia. They then moved to Kress where Paul worked in his dad's tractor machine shop after school and on the weekends. After graduation from Kress High School in 1961, Paul attended Lubbock Christian College where he received an Associate Degree. He attended Texas Tech University for a year before entering the U.S. Army. He served in the 167th Co. 54th Signal Corp in Vietnam. He received a Bronze Star for his service.
Upon his return home, Paul established Scott Tractor Co. in Plainview. He grew the business to seven locations throughout the Panhandle and South Plains. Paul met Shirley Hamilton in Las Cruces, NM in June 1975. They were married in Trenton, Tennessee on March 20, 1976. They made their home in Plainview the 45 ½ years of their marriage. They had four children. During their growing up years, Paul and Shirley were kept busy attending ballgames, band performances, awards ceremonies and any other school activity in which their children participated. Paul served as a spiritual leader for his family, teaching them by example to love and serve the Lord.
Paul served on the Public Relations Board of New Mexico Christian Children's Home and many years as Treasurer and then member-at-large on the Executive Board of Blue Haven Youth Camp in New Mexico.
Paul was a longtime member of Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ. He taught many Bible classes from ages kindergarten through adult. He served as a deacon and 28 years as an elder shepherding the church. He conducted door knocking campaigns and taught numerous personal Bible studies. He was a great Christian example for his family, church and community and will be greatly missed.
Paul enjoyed fishing, working Sudoku and playing with his grandchildren. POPS LOVED HIS GRANDKIDS!
After his retirement in 2007, Paul and Shirley were privileged to travel extensively in the United States, having been in all fifty states.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Shelley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Rebekah Scott of Abilene, Rachel and Todd Bissett of Plainview, Miriam and Doug Berryhill of Cabot, AR; one son, David and Brittany Scott of Big Spring; grandchildren, Karlee, Brooke, Dawson and Adyson Bissett, Ava and Asher Berryhill and William Scott; one sister, Judy DeSantis of Richmond and one brother-in-law, Larry Shelley of Lawton, OK.
A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday, August 9, 2021 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ with Larry Waymire of Lexington, TN officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
