John Burton passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021, at his home. He was born in Muncie, Indiana, on March 8, 1945, to the late Robert and Joan Burton.

He is survived by his wife, Lyn Burton; son, Matthew Burton; sister Ann Grimes and family; sister Nancy Morales and family; brother Bill Burton and family; and brother Jim Burton and family. John loved dogs throughout his life and also leaves his dog, Jenny.

John graduated from University High School in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1963 and graduated from Indiana University in 1967. He served in the Army in Vietnam. John worked for D.E.S. Tobacco during the 1970s. In 1980, John joined the Indiana Department of revenue, from which he retired in 2007.

John was an avid runner for nearly 30 years and competed in nearly 1500 road races, including 11 marathons. He was an auto racing fan, having attended the Indianapolis 500 for decades as well as other auto races, including Formula One.

John enjoyed large family gatherings, especially as a chance to see all of his nieces and nephews. He was an avid reader and enjoyed music, particularly Bluegrass.

Services entrusted to Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd W. Dr. Indianapolis with burial in Summit Lawn Cemetery in Westfield, IN.
