TROY Clifford C. Hughes Jr., 84, of Frear Park View passed away Monday August 2, 2021 at his home. Born in Catskill he was the son of the late Clifford C. Hughes Sr. and Ida Frances Brandow Hughes. He was a 1954 graduate of Waterford High School, received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Cortland State College and his Master's Degree from North Adams State College.

He was a Guidance Counselor for 26 years and retired in 1990. Prior to that he was a physical education teacher and coach at Germantown Schools, coached basketball and tennis at Troy High School and coached Siena's golf team for 8 years. The team won the MAAC Championship in 1991 and tied for 1st place in 1992. He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks. An avid golfer Cliff made 7 holes-in-one during his career, having played at Battenkill., Mechanicville, Van Schaick and Troy Country Clubs as well as at the Frear Park Course where he was club champion. He also formed the Junior Easter NY Golf Association and was Tournament Director for 25 years.

Cliff is the husband of the late Lois Manley Hughes who died in 2017 and is the father of Kim Hughes of Macclenny, FL and Ronald Marc Hughes (Barbara) of Middletown. He is the brother of Lynn Potenza of Glens Falls and the late Carol Hart and Sharon Vitarius. He is the proud grandfather of David and Brian Hughes.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10 am at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment will be in Memory's Garden.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
