Richard L. Watkins, devoted husband and loving father, passed away Tuesday, July 27, at Southlake Hospital, Clermont, Fla., with his beloved wife, Diane, by his side.

A native of Frackville, he graduated from Frackville High School, where he lettered all four years in football, basketball and baseball. As a senior, he won the Outstanding Athlete Award in all three sports. Following high school, he served as a PIAA official for over 30 years, officiating and refereeing the three sports he played while a student. He also officiated Teener League and American Legion baseball. He was one of the first girls' varsity softball officials and coached Frackville Lions Little League for six years.

In 2004, Rich had the honor of being inducted into the PIAA District 11 Hall of Fame.

As a sports fan, particularly of Penn State football, Rich spent many Saturdays over a 50-year period at Beaver Stadium, cheering on the Nittany Lions. After he and Diane moved to Florida, he remained loyal to the Lions by tuning in for every televised game.

Rich was a salesman for Rochester-Midland Co. for 35 years. An active member of Christ United Church in Ashland, he served on the Church Council.

Rich and Diane (Moser) grew up together in Frackville, where they married and raised their son, Richard, Claremont, Calif., of whom he was extremely proud. Family vacations to Wildwood, N.J., New York City, Gatlinburg, Tenn., Southern California (Claremont, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Laguna Beach and Palm Desert) and Walt Disney World were among his happiest times. Diane and Rich's love for, as he called it, "The Mouse," prompted them to move 10 years ago to Groveland, Fla., ideally situated to visit their favorite Disney attractions.

Rich was preceded in death by his father and mother, Cyril and Dorothy Watkins.

In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by his son, Richard, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Sarf.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will follow at the Frackville Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family respectfully requests that those in attendance wear masks.
