Brian Edward King, 42, of New York City, NY passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 29, 2021 after a brief illness. Born in Hartford on October 5, 1978, he grew up in East Hartford and was a graduate of St. Christopher School, East Hartford and East Catholic High School, Class of 1996, in Manchester.

He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Fairfield University in 2001 and later graduated from the Quinnipiac University School of Law in 2005. For the past fifteen years, Brian has resided in New York City where he practiced law as a criminal defense attorney in New York City as a partner in the Law Offices of Smith and King. He viewed that role as essential in our democracy. He gained the respect of his colleagues on both the defense and prosecution side of our system. Brian maintained a deep respect for his clients' rights and an equally deep respect for the law.

Brian was a man devoted to his family and friends. Depending on how you knew him, Brian was known as a loving son and stepson, a supportive younger brother, an awesome Uncle Brian- who came close to possessing "super powers". To his friends, Brian was "Bri", "Kinger". To his clients, he was Attorney King. No matter what role he played, he was genuine and supportive.

During his long spiritual journey, Brian chose to put God in the center of his life. Brian was fun; he brought light into every encounter he had with people. Brian loved to connect on a level that brought a sense of understanding and compassion. He was a lover of music - from opera to rap. He had a deep appreciation of art and photography. Brian enjoyed the art of cooking, always ready for the next culinary challenge. He immersed himself in the culture of places he traveled. He had an expansive view of the world. He was a voracious reader, always educating himself. He enjoyed sports, both as a spectator as well as a participant.

Brian is survived by his beloved mother, Mary Ann (Heyer) King Sprankle and her husband, Terrence, of East Hampton; his father, Michael Joseph King of New York City, NY; his caring brother, Michael T. King and his wife Jessica and their twin children, Emma and James, all of Glastonbury; a step-brother, Richard Sprankle and his wife Christina and their daughter, Allison, all of Ware, MA; and a step-sister, Jenna Sprankle of West Hartford. He also leaves an aunt, Jeanne Haggerty and her husband Frank of Lawrenceville, NJ; two uncles, Donald Schilley of Cutchogue, NY, Edward King of New Jersey; several cousins, clients, and dear friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday (August 7, 2021) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Christopher Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hebron Avenue/Wickham Drive, Glastonbury. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Saturday morning.)

Brian's family will receive relatives and friends at the D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Friday (August 6, 2021) from 4 – 7 pm. His family is requesting that all visitors please wear a face covering and adhere to all the church and funeral home regulations.
