Amy Louise Friesen was born in Arizona to Vern and Wanda Friesen. She was the eldest of three children, having a sister and a brother. Later, other siblings joined the family through adoptions.

She attended school in Manhattan, Kansas, where she was active in school and community theater productions. She attended Bethel College in N. Newton, KS and graduated with a degree in Speech and Drama. While at Bethel, Amy was in many productions, including a lead role in the play "Arsenic and Old Lace". She helped the Thresher Speech and Drama teams to garner several awards, and she herself won the Thresher Award for Speech and Drama. She also endeared herself to many who appreciated her warm heart and quirky sense of humor.

After moving back to Manhattan with her daughter Kendra, Amy began attending Living Word Church, where she met and married Eric Ward, and they became a family, welcoming a son Josh later. Her devotion to God and the Living Word congregation continued to the end of her life. She was actively involved in the worship team there.

Amy worked tirelessly for Flint Hills Christian School in Manhattan as librarian, lunch lady, and drama coordinator. Her commitment to her craft and to nurturing the creative talents of the students on the stage brought forth many unforgettable productions. "Lunch Lady" - one of life's more thankless jobs - was a challenge Amy took on as well. Her sense of humor and almost militant determination proved to be the combination that kept FHCS lunches from spiraling down into total mayhem. The FHCS family will remember her as the librarian, who built the library from practically the ground up, and she worked summers, weekends, and evenings adding color, creativity, and efficiency to the library. Her experience in drama made her an excellent storyteller for the younger students, whom she loved.

Amy grew and maintained a thriving Mary Kay business, hosting parties and providing beauty and self-care tips to many. Friends recall fun makeover parties and events. She was well-loved in the Mary Kay community.

Amy's love for her family was always evident in her care for her husband, her children, and her grandchild. She cared for and kept in contact with her parents as well. She was a devoted friend and sister in Christ to many, including this writer, who has known her for over 40 years.

In 2014 Amy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which she survived for seven more years. Earlier in July, symptoms came back, this time with devastating results. She passed away with her family near, and leaves many friends, family, co-workers, and former students bereft by her untimely leaving of this earth. She was preceded in death by her father Vern in 2020.

There's a big, empty spotlight on the stage of this world, but she is shining in God's light in the eternal ever-after. We love and miss you, Amy.
